Girls Film School at the College of Santa Fe draws to a close with the teen-aged participants presenting their work in a public showing at 8:00pm today, June 30, at The Screen. Girls Film School, under the guidance of Deborah Fort, assistant chair of the college's Moving Image Arts Department, aims to encourage more young women to consider film and video careers. The program opens with a documentary about the two-week school. The girls also unveil video self-portraits, a series of short scenes, a camera-less film exercise (16mm leader and picture slug scratched, painted and otherwise manipulated by hand) and final projects produced in cooperation with college student mentors. A reception after the screening allows the public to meet the young filmmakers. The program will be repeated at 6:30 pm July 6, at Borders Books & Music, 500 Montezuma Avenue. |
