Girls Film School, a two-week immersion program in filmmaking, is taking applications for this summer's session running June 17 - 30 at The College of Santa Fe. The program is open to teenage girls who will have complete their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school in May. Applicants should be committed to exploring the creative process and participating in collaborative adventure. Recognizing the shortage of women involved in the film, television and new media industries, Girls Film School is designed to help rectify the imbalance by giving young women an introduction to the basic concepts of writing, producing, acting, editing, video production and web site design. "Girls Film School really helped me to open up to people and tell them stuff that I had never told anybody before," said 17-year-old Liana Gonzales, a participant in last summer's program. "I felt very comfortable sharing my thoughts with the group. Everyone was so supportive in helping us express our ideas and creativity." Professionals from the college's Moving Image Arts Department and the film community teach all classes. The participants wok independently and in small groups to produce several short pieces of film, video and new media. Tuition, including room and board, production fees and equipment rentals, is $2,500 with scholarships offered on a sliding-scale basis.
