Girls Film
School at The College of Santa Fe recently received a $12,000 grant from
the Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for
its residential film and video empowerment program for young girls. GFS
also received a $2,000 grant from the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities
for the program's Visiting Artists & Scholars lecture series. The
$12,000 grant will allow GFS to train the college's female film students
as mentors and train graduates of the 2000 GFS pilot program as assistant
mentors. GFS2001 is a two-week residential program for 20 students from
around the country on the basic concepts of writing, producing, acting,
editing, film and video and web site design. The program ends with a public
screening of the student's work at The Screen, the college's art house
cinematheque located at the Garson Communications Center. GFS is committed
to multicultural, multilevel participation with approximately 50% or more
of the students representing Hispanic, Native American and other ethnic
groups. |
