GirlsFilmSchool 2005 presents its Summer Screening Series:

Sunday, June 19, 7 p.m. - Double Dare and Just for the Ride - Tipton Hall
with director and cinematographer Amanda Micheli
Double Dare is a documentary about the struggles two stuntwomen in male-dominated Tinseltown face to stay working, stay thin and stay sane. Just for the Ride, about legendary rodeo women, received a Student Academy Award and an award from the International Documentary Association.

Tuesday, June 21, 7:00 pm - "Betty Boop is a Dog / Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" - Tipton Hall
In this highly illustrated presentation, video artists Teresa Foley will introduce basic concepts of visual literacy and elicit audience responses regarding the characterization and manifestation of women in animated media. A peculiar but engaging cross-section of mass media cartoons and independent art house film clips will be screened as the foundation for a criticial dialogue about animated female characters.


Thursday, June 23, 7:30 pm - Divan - The Screen

with documentary filmmaker Pearl Gluck
As a teenager, Pearl Gluck left her Orthodox Jewish clan in Brooklyn for a secular life in Manhattan. Many years later, she documented her travels to Hungary in search of a family heirloom: a couch upon which esteemed rabbis once slept. Admission: $8/$6 for seniors & students.

Saturday, June 25, 7 p.m. - Waking Up on Central: Home Is Where the Heart Is and “A Feminine Study of Native American or Indigenous Women” - Tipton Hall
with documentarian Beverly Singer, Ph.D.
Under Singer’s direction, a group of homeless youth from Albuquerque created Home is Where the Heart Is, adocumentary they hope will convince policy makers to establish a homeless youth shelter.

Friday, July 1, 7:30 p.m. - Final Screening of GirlsFilmSchool participants’ work - The Screen
Join GFS students, mentors and visiting artists for the final screening of work created during the 2005 session.
